Day 19....Tempelhof

Tempelhof is a park that used to be a US airport during WWII that has been converted into a public park.  It was amazing to see the remnants of this once crucial structure that hosted one of the biggest Nazi parades and to see the sweetness it is now.

Day 18....laundry, groceries and nothingness....soooo good.

I got to sleep in today!!!!!  I cleaned my apartment, went to the grocery store and did laundry.  Met a nice German man that wanted to know my artistic practice as I was visually journaling.  Had a great conversation about the idea vs. the craft, was wonderful to interact on that topic with a total stranger!  Went to a closing and an opening of fellow classmates and had a magical dinner at Spaghetti Western!

Day 17...Pecha Kucha, Berlin wall & great friends

Today we met with another round of Pecha Kucha artists.  The critique this time, was on a series of linear drawings that I based off of photos taken this week.  Afterwards went to a great Thai place with a bunch of fellow transartists, then to the Eastside open air gallery, a huge piece of the Berlin wall that has amazing commissioned pieces painted on it:)  Happy Friday to us!

Day 14...Potsdamerstrasse walk

In the class between memory and history, we are creating proposals for a site specific public art piece.  Today we walked up and down this historical street, on a rather beautiful day.  Pre-war/post-war architecture, cultures culminating in a city block, Hitlers bunker that just can't be demolished so they just built around it, a beautiful church that houses and extroidinary contemporary art collection and a first ever for this blog a SELFIE!  Ha!  (technically someone else took it, but it still counts as a selfie if you have to ask:)  a pitfall of traveling solo.)
Rich with history, colors and textures Potsdamerstrasse was an ultimate Berlin experience.

Day 13....magic words hurt my head

Tonight was my presentation to half of my school.  Describing my work to this point, where I want to go and what I want to achieve in the next two years.  As with anything, criticism is a must.  Constant feedback only allows you to grow more.  I feel as if that half hour not only made think and reconsider some of my actions as an artist, but as a person in general.  Why?  What?  How?  are consistently questions we are trained to ask ourselves, but what if you don't have answers?  Why color?  Why painting?  These answers I do not know.   That was an extremely awesome realization.  Depth over rides breadth sometimes, and this is one of those occasions.  I have never "allowed" myself to go deep and search for the answers, I look to the surface for explanation.  My goal with this journey over the next few months was to research pigments and tell there story, but I feel as if I need to research myself and tell my story, for the first time.
